About Irene

Hi! I am Irene Nunez, LCSW, PMH-C

I received my BA in Sociology and Criminal Justice from California State University, Fullerton.

I furthered my education by receiving a Master of Social Work degree from California State University, Fullerton with a concentration in child welfare.

Personal and Professional Experience

My name is Irene Nunez,  I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C), and EMDR certified therapist and approved consultant. My office is based out of North Orange County (Brea) and service clients in surrounding areas as well. I have several years of experience in providing mental health services to the community.

Beginning January 2025, I will have the honor to begin my journey as a professor at Cal State Fullerton. As an adjunct professor, I will teach a trauma informed social work class to students in their master of social work program (MSW). Fun fact, this is also the program I attended for my MSW, my alma mater.

I specialize in working with women transitioning into motherhood and other major life transitions. If you are struggling with pregnancy, postpartum depression , postpartum anxiety, birth trauma, ptsd, childhood trauma, and parenting I am here to help. I also conduct Mental Health Immigration Evaluations. (please see tab on Immigration evaluations for more details).

I grew up in Inglewood, CA in a Cuban and Mexican American household. During these youthful years, my passion towards social justice and helping others began.  I myself struggled with anxiety during these years and decided to make it my life's mission to become an empathetic listener, decolonize therapy, and advocate for individuals  inclusive of all walks of life with specialized experience working with the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and immigrant communities. I also specialize in helping support for young parents, parenting as a teen, and how to balance school and parenting as a teen. I have both clinical/professional and lived experience as a daughter of two teen parents.

In order to do so, I have become a strong advocate for taking steps towards destigmatizing and decolonizing how we view and participate in therapy and in the mental health field. I believe my approaches are aligned with those of holistic therapy and healing practices. I have taken and continue to take several steps in integrating this into my practice.

Through these experiences I have been able to help individuals find their inner peace, balance, strengths, and walk the middle path towards healing. I provide trauma therapy for Women. I believe everyone's path towards healing is unique. Let's take that first step together.

-Con Mucho Amor Y Gratitud,

Irene Nunez, LCSW, PMH-C

Currently I reside in, North Orange County, CA. As a settler on unceded ancestral lands shared by the Gabrielino-Tongva Nation and the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians/Acjachemen Nation, I honor their land.
